Abstract

A study on the effect of the addition of coconut fiber on brick with various fiber lengths has been conducted. This study aims to determine the effect of coco fiber length to compressive strength and flexural strength on brick. These strengths were tested using Hydraullics Concrete Beam Testing equipment.Material used in this study were sand, cement and the coco fiber with length of 1 cm, 4 cm, 7 cm, 10 cm, 13 cm and 15 cm. A mixture of sand and cement composition was 4:1 and coconut coir fiber with a fixed volume of 10% of sand. Results of this study show that there was an influence of coco fiber length of those strengths on brick. Compressive strengths obtained without coconut fiber and addition variation of coconut fiber length were 2.22 x 106 N/m2, 1.28 x 106 N/m2, 2.17 x 106 N/m2, 2.41 x 106 N/m2, 5.24 x 106 N/m2, 6.98 x 106 N/m2, and 5.23 x 106 N/m2,respectively. Similarly, the flexural strength obtained without coconut fiber and addition variation of coconut fiber were 2.56 x 106 N/m2, 2.81 x 106 N/m2, 2.59 x 106 N/m2, 3.74 x 106 N/m2, 2.89 x 106 N/m2, 3.23 x 106 N/m2, and 2.79 x 106 N/m2, respectively. The maximum compressive strength of concrete blocks obtained on the coco fiber length of 13 cm was 6.98 x 106 N/m2. The flexural strength on this fiber length was 3,23 x 106 N/m2. The maximum flexural strength obtained on the coco fiber length of 7 cm was 3,74 x 106 N/m2. For this fiber length, compressive strength value obtained was 2.41 x 106 N/m2.
