Abstract

Abstract: Activated carbon was successfully synthesized by utilizing Gigantochloa robusta Kurz. The manufacturing process of activated carbon is carried out using the physic method. To determine the activated carbon powders characteristics was carried out by proximate analysis like water content, volatile matter, ash, bound carbon content, and iodine value test. From the proximate test, the activated carbon has a water content value were 6.7% at 150 0C. The volatile matter and ash content analysis showed were 11.3 and 6.50%, respectively. Furthermore, the activated carbon showed a bound carbon content value was 82.2% with the iodine adsorption value of 795,97 (mg/g). EDX shows the elemental composition of carbon (92%). Activated carbon from Gigantochloa robusta Kurz has potentially as detergent liquid waste degradation with a degradation value of 65,12%. In this results, can be concluded that activated carbon from Gigantochloa robusta Kurz has been successfully synthesized physically and can be applied as a liquid waste purifier in the future.
