Abstract

Dayak Onion (Eleutherine bulbosa Urb.) is one Indonesian medicinal plant that is used as a traditional remedy and possesses many biological activities. This study aims to examine the specific and non-specific parameters of ethanolic extract of E. bulbosa Urb. from Lampo, Donggala, Central Sulawesi. The bulbs extracts of E. bulbosa Urb were obtained from the maceration of the bulbs with 70% ethanol as solvent. The specific parameters determined included extract identity, organoleptic extract, water/ethanol soluble content, and chromatography profile. The non-specific includes determining specific gravity, water content, total ash content, acid insoluble ash content, heavy metal contamination, microbial contamination, and mold and yeast contamination. The specific and non-specific characteristics of the ethanolic extract of E. bulbosa bulbs have met the required criteria. In conclusion the ethanolic extract of E. bulbosa Urb. bulbs from Lampo, Donggala, and Central Sulawesi can be utilized as bioactive materials for herbal medicine.
