1. Purpose and Scope

Parameter: Journal of Statistics recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools may assist authors and editorial teams in certain aspects of scholarly publishing. This policy establishes requirements for the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI tools in manuscript preparation, editorial assessment, and publication.

This policy applies to authors, editors, and other individuals involved in the journal's editorial and publication processes.

2. General Principles

The use of AI must comply with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and accountability.

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or credited with authorship.

  • Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of their manuscripts.

  • AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed and verified by the responsible human author.

  • AI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate research data, results, references, images, or other research evidence.

  • The use of AI must not violate copyright, privacy, confidentiality, or research ethics requirements.

3. Disclosure of AI Use by Authors

Authors must disclose any substantive use of AI tools in preparing a manuscript submitted to Parameter: Journal of Statistics.

Disclosure is required when AI tools are used to generate or substantially revise text, develop analytical content, assist with coding or data analysis, generate images or figures, or perform other tasks that materially contribute to the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify the AI tool used, its purpose, and the relevant parts of the work in which it was used. Authors should provide sufficient information for the editorial team to assess the nature of the assistance.

The disclosure should be included in an AI Use Declaration section in the manuscript, preferably before the References or in another designated section specified by the journal.

Authors may use the following statement when applicable:

Declaration of AI Use

“The authors declare that [name of AI tool] was used for [specific purpose]. The authors reviewed and verified the resulting content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the published work.”

If no AI tools were used, authors may state:

“The authors declare that no AI tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript.”

Authors remain responsible for verifying all AI-assisted text, citations, calculations, code, interpretations, and conclusions. AI tools must not be cited as authors or treated as authoritative sources in place of original scholarly references.

4. Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI tools only for appropriate and limited administrative or editorial assistance, provided that the use complies with confidentiality, privacy, and data-protection requirements.

Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, unpublished research data, author identities, or other confidential editorial materials to public AI tools or external AI services unless the service has been specifically approved for secure handling of such information and its use is authorized under the journal's applicable policies.

AI tools must not independently determine whether a manuscript is accepted, rejected, or revised. All editorial decisions must be made by the responsible human editor, taking into account the manuscript, peer-review reports, and the journal's editorial criteria.

Where AI use materially contributes to an editorial assessment or decision process, the responsible editor must disclose that use internally to the journal's editorial leadership and ensure that the final assessment is independently verified by a human.

5. Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, supplementary files, unpublished findings, or confidential peer-review materials to public AI tools or external AI services that are not authorized for confidential scholarly review.

AI tools must not replace the reviewer's independent scientific judgment. Reviewers remain responsible for the originality, accuracy, fairness, and confidentiality of their evaluations.

Reviewers must not use AI to fabricate reviewer comments, references, or assessments, or to make unsupported allegations concerning authors or their work. Any AI assistance permitted by the journal must comply with its confidentiality requirements.

6. Prohibited Uses

The following uses of AI are prohibited:

  1. Listing an AI system as an author or assigning it responsibility for scholarly work.

  2. Fabricating, falsifying, or deceptively manipulating data, results, references, images, or research evidence using AI.

  3. Presenting AI-generated material as verified research without appropriate human review.

  4. Uploading confidential manuscripts or peer-review materials to unauthorized AI services.

  5. Using AI to produce fraudulent peer reviews, impersonate authors or reviewers, or manipulate editorial decisions.

  6. Concealing substantive AI assistance when disclosure is required by this policy.

  7. Using AI in a manner that violates copyright, privacy, research ethics, or other applicable requirements.

7. Editorial Assessment and Enforcement

The editorial team may request clarification or additional information about the use of AI in a submitted manuscript.

If a potential violation of this policy is identified, the journal will assess the available evidence and may request an explanation from the authors or other relevant parties. Depending on the circumstances and findings, the journal may reject a submission, require corrections, suspend editorial processing, or take other appropriate action consistent with the journal's Publishing Ethics policy.

For articles already published, concerns will be assessed in accordance with the journal's applicable policies on research misconduct, corrections, and retractions.

8. Human Responsibility

AI tools may assist scholarly work but cannot replace human accountability. Authors remain responsible for their manuscripts, editors for editorial decisions, and reviewers for their assessments. All parties must ensure that AI is used transparently, responsibly, and in a manner that protects the integrity of scholarly communication.

9. Policy Updates

Parameter: Journal of Statistics may revise this policy in response to developments in AI technology, scholarly publishing standards, and applicable ethical guidance. Any revisions will be published on the journal's official website.
